INTERESTED IN THE EUROPEAN JOB MARKET?

What is EUROPASS?
The EUROPASS is a system that was introduced as a means of standardising the format for recording skills/qualifications and experience so that they are understood in Europe and candidate countries. It was officially launched 31st January 2005 in Luxembourg.
The Europass CV replaces the European CV, which was introduced in 2002.

Why is Europass necessary
Whether you are planning to enrol in an education or training programme, looking for a job, or getting experience abroad, it is important to be able to make your skills and competences clearly understood.

Europass is a new way of helping people to make their skills and qualifications clearly and easily understood in Europe (European Union, EFTA/EEA and candidate countries), and and to move anywhere in Europe.

Europass consists of five documents:

two documents (Europass curriculum vitae (CV) and Europass Language Passport) that you can fill in yourself .
three other documents (
Europass Certificate Supplement, Europass Diploma Supplement and Europass Mobility) filled in and issued by competent organisations.

Europass has been established by the Decision No 2241/2004/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of 15 December 2004 on a single transparency framework for qualifications and competences.

I usually frown at any attempt to impose uniformity on the lifes of European citizens, such as the Bolonia Project and the like, but in this case I'm laughing at it, because of the name. Europass sounds as "Europe ass", so it may have unexpected sexual connotations for the job applicants. Where are they supposed to be sending their CV?

Brilliant comment! And not only that: A "euro pass" also makes you wonder: is that a new, European way of making a pass at somebody? (or perhaps a way of making a pass at a EU citizen?)
Ah, the beauty of sexual innuendo...
